To mark my one week anniversary of my arrival I decided to go on a little adventure.
My first weekend in Eindhoven is winding down, and I can honestly say I am exhausted. I made some ambitious plans and am happy that I did everything I set out to do and more. As a result I took my first day trip. Which is one of the reasons I am so excited to be in the Netherlands is it's great location in Europe. It is very centrally located and a quick flight or train ride gets me all over Europe.
Today I decided to visit a small town called Utrecht. In the Netherlands they consider it a little Amsterdam because it has canals and apparently is a lot like Amsterdam but smaller and cleaner. Since I haven't been to Amsterdam yet, I will hold off judgement. But in due time.
Utrecht is about an hour north of Eindhoven on the train. The train station is very close to my apartment and the train runs that way about every 20 minutes. So I just went over this morning and started my little journey.
I am glad I went though I could have had better weather or perhaps a traveling companion but otherwise it was a pleasant trip. When I first arrived in Utrecht I took a tour of the city via the canal. I have always loved boats and water so any city with canals is one that I like. The city was very old and very pretty. As you can see below.
It was a very nice little city, and I am glad I decided to go. It has the highest cathedral called Dom Tower in the Netherlands, a picture is below.
Now I have to get ready for my second week of work. I am planning to speak to my boss on Monday and discuss my project with him and make sure we are on the same page. Unfortunately the weather in town does not look so great this week, it is supposed to rain every day except tomorrow. But I am lucky I had such nice weather my first week. It made the afternoons and times I wasn't at my desk at work much more exciting. Now that I am more situated at work and now that I have some friends here I feel a lot better. It has been quite a week but I am looking forward to what the summer has in store for me.
